"When you walk into Shimizu, a small, serene Japanese restaurant on the edge of the theater district, the first thing you notice is the sushi bar: slabs of glistening fish behind a transparent partition, a hunched-over chef with a sharp knife and a ballet like grace and fluidity of movement "
- Frank Bruni, New York Times, Aug. 12, 2005
The restaurant was opened by Hisao Shimizu who has been creating the genuine Sushi for over 20 years. Wide variety of seasonal fish is delivered daily and is turned into the abundant spread of sparkling fresh sushi in the masterful hands of maestro Shimizu. Be sure to try the Seasonal Chef's Choice Sushi Platter, Shimizu's signature dish. There are plenty of other Japanese specialties on the menu.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day except Sunday. It features Sushi bar, main dining area and Shochu bar, which is one of the few New York City bars serving authentic Japanese beverages.
